Our Inclusion

At OCMAT, inclusion is fundamental to the way we lead, teach and support our school communities. We believe every pupil should be able to participate, learn, belong and succeed, and that achieving this is a shared responsibility across our Trust.

Inclusion is not a separate initiative or an additional strand of our work. It is embedded in the everyday decisions made across our schools: in leadership, teaching and curriculum design; in the deployment of staff and resources; in attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding; in the accessibility of our environments; and in our partnerships with families and external professionals.

Our approach begins with understanding pupils and the barriers to learning and participation they may experience. We seek to identify and reduce these barriers through high-quality teaching, thoughtful and proportionate adaptations, timely intervention and carefully targeted support. We are committed to securing consistency in our shared expectations while enabling each school to respond to the particular needs of its pupils, families and community.

Our OCMAT Inclusion Exemplification sets out what this Trust-wide approach looks like in practice across seven key areas of inclusive provision. It brings together examples from across our schools and is intended to support reflection, evaluation, and continued improvement.

Using the accompanying School Inclusion Strategy Template, each OCMAT school develops its own inclusion strategy. This identifies a small number of evidence-informed priorities, actions and intended outcomes based on the school’s evaluation of its current provision. These priorities form part of the school’s wider School Development Plan.
